🧾 VAT Calculator

VAT (VAT/IVA/TVA in EU) is a hidden tax in the price you pay. Shops often show "€50" but that already includes VAT. This calculator lets you choose: add VAT to a net amount, or extract the hidden tax from a gross price. Handy for invoicing and budgeting.

%
Net amount £100.00
VAT £21.00
Gross total £121.00
VAT amount: £100.00 × 21% = £21.00
Gross (net + VAT): £100.00 + £21.00 = £121.00

Formula

Add VAT: Gross = Net × (1 + VAT%). Extract: VAT = Gross − Net

commonMistakes

  • Using the wrong rate: rates vary by country and product category.
  • Forgetting VAT is already in shop price: you always pay the gross amount.

useCases

  • Invoicing: Calculate how much net to invoice to achieve a certain gross amount.
  • Shopping: Extract how much you really pay net when you see a shop price.
  • Budgeting: Know how much of your amount goes to tax.
