Speed Converter
From a US speed limit in mph to wind speed in knots while sailing: convert any speed exactly between km/h, mph, m/s and knots. Handy for travel, sports, weather reports and shipping.

公式
Result = (value × from-factor) ÷ to-factor, relative to m/s
Every speed unit has a fixed conversion factor to metres per second: 1 km/h = 1 ÷ 3.6 m/s (≈ 0.277778 m/s), 1 mph = 0.44704 m/s and 1 knot = 0.514444 m/s. The calculator converts your value to m/s first and then to the target unit.
ステップ解説
- 1Enter the speed you want to convert.
- 2Choose the unit to convert from and to: km/h, mph, m/s or knots.

計算例
100 km/h to mph
→ 100 ÷ 3.6 ÷ 0.44704 = 62.14 mph.
1 knot to km/h
→ 1 × 0.514444 × 3.6 = 1.852 km/h.
60 mph to km/h
→ 60 × 0.44704 × 3.6 = 96.56 km/h.
Reference table
| Unit | In m/s |
|---|---|
| 1 m/s | 1 |
| 1 km/h | 0.277778 |
| 1 mph | 0.44704 |
| 1 knot | 0.514444 |
Km/h and knots are derived units; m/s is the SI base unit of speed.
よくある間違い
- Confusing knots (nautical miles per hour) with mph (statute miles per hour); a knot is slightly faster than one mph.
- Forgetting to divide km/h by 3.6 when converting to m/s (a common physics-class mistake).
- Mixing up wind speed and vehicle speed: weather reports often give wind in knots or Beaufort, not km/h.
活用シーン
- Converting a US speed limit (mph) to km/h for a road trip.
- Converting wind speed from a marine forecast (knots) into km/h.
- Comparing a running or cycling pace in m/s with the speed shown on a traffic sign.
よくある質問
Why do shipping and aviation use knots?
A knot is historically tied to the nautical mile and latitude (1 nautical mile equals 1 arc-minute of the globe), which made navigation at sea and in the air arithmetically simpler.
How do I convert km/h to m/s?
Divide by 3.6. For example, 90 km/h ÷ 3.6 = 25 m/s. This works because 1 km = 1000 m and 1 hour = 3600 s, so 1000 ÷ 3600 = 1 ÷ 3.6.
How many km/h is 1 knot?
1 knot is exactly 1.852 km/h, since a knot represents 1 nautical mile (1,852 m) per hour.
Why is 1 mph not the same as 1 km/h?
Mph uses the statute mile (1,609.344 m) as its distance unit, while km/h uses the kilometre (1,000 m). Since a mile is longer than a kilometre, 1 mph equals about 1.61 km/h.
