Litres = (Distance ÷ 100) × Consumption. Cost = Litres × Price per litre
A car's consumption is usually given per 100 kilometres, not per kilometre. That's why you first divide distance by 100 to find how many times that consumption applies, multiply by the consumption figure for the number of litres, then multiply by price per litre. Driving style, speed, load weight and tyre pressure can make real consumption differ from the factory figure by 10–20%.

- Entering consumption in km/litre (backwards!) instead of L/100km — this gives completely wrong results.
- Calculating only the outward trip and forgetting a return journey doubles the total.

Does this calculator include maintenance and depreciation?
No, only fuel costs. Your real cost per km is higher because you also need to cover maintenance, insurance, registration, wear-and-tear, and depreciation. This tool shows the fuel component. For full analysis, add roughly EUR 0.10–0.20 per km extra for other costs.
