💱 Euro to Dollar Converter

The exchange rate between euro and dollar changes every trading day. The rate field autofills with the current rate, based on the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, but you can always override it yourself to calculate with a different rate.

Formula

Amount in dollars = amount in euros × exchange rate

A simple multiplication. The ECB publishes a reference rate every working day around 16:00 CET based on a market survey; this calculator uses that rate as its starting point, but you fill in the rate you actually need yourself.

Steps

  1. 1Enter the amount in euros.
  2. 2Check or adjust the exchange rate (it is automatically filled with the current rate).
  3. 3Read the converted amount in dollars, including the working.

Example conversion at an illustrative rate of 1.08

Euro (€)Dollar ($) at rate 1.08
1010.80
5054.00
100108.00
500540.00
1,0001,080.00
5,0005,400.00

Illustrative at a rate of 1.08; the actual rate changes daily and is autofilled above.

warnings

  • This rate is the official ECB reference rate, not the rate your bank or exchange office uses. Expect a margin on an actual transaction.

commonMistakes

  • Using the ECB reference rate for an actual money exchange; banks and exchange offices almost always add a margin.
  • Forgetting the rate may have already changed since the last automatic fetch; check the timestamp for large amounts.
  • Assuming the rate works symmetrically in reverse; converting dollars to euros requires the inverse operation (dividing, not multiplying by the same rate).

useCases

  • Translating a dollar price to euros before a purchase at a US webshop.
  • Planning a travel budget in dollars from a euro budget.
  • Comparing invoices or salaries in dollars with a euro reference amount.
