Formula

Super Effective = 2x damage | Not Very Effective = 0.5x damage | Immune = 0x damage

Each Pokémon type has advantages and disadvantages against other types. A move is super effective (2x damage) against types it counters, not very effective (0.5x) against types it's weak to, and sometimes immune (0x) against other types.

commonMistakes

  • Forgetting that type matchup works both ways - if Fire is super effective against Grass, Grass is not very effective against Fire.

useCases

  • Planning your team composition for competitive battles
  • Countering your opponent's Pokémon during battle

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "super effective" mean?

Super effective means a move deals double (2x) damage to that type. For example, Water moves deal 2x damage to Fire-type Pokémon.

Can a Pokémon be immune to a type?

Yes! For example, Ground-type Pokémon are immune to Electric-type moves, taking no damage at all.

How does dual-type effectiveness work?

For dual-type Pokémon, multiply the effectiveness of both types. If a move is 2x against both types, it deals 4x damage total.
