For an essay, paper or thesis it helps to know in advance how many pages your text will be, for example to meet a set page limit. This calculator converts your word count into a realistic page estimate based on the formatting you use. The formatting — double- or single-spaced — makes a big difference to the result.
Formula
Pages = word count ÷ words per page
With a standard 12-point font (such as Times New Roman) at double spacing, about 275 words fit on a page; at single spacing, about 550. These are averages — the exact figure depends on font, font size, margins and paragraph structure. Simply divide your total word count by the words-per-page of your chosen formatting to get the estimate.
